Did you know that more than 70% of today’s jobs have been obtained through personal recommendation or personal referral? Our perception of others is determined not only by what they say, but how they say it and the way they say it. Relationships are more readily formed when all three aspects of the communication process are in play.

Facial expressions communicate so much more than just words. Through people’s expressions, we can see sincerity, confidence, empathy and friendliness. We can also perceive discomfort and fear. We can see when what someone is saying doesn’t quite match what their body language is communicating. The ability to “read” a person beyond what he or she says can be invaluable.

People want to spend time with people they can relate to and relationships are built when people take the time to learn more about each other and share interests and values. When we find we have common ground; a similar life experience or passion, our connection intensifies.
